“Bay Area God,” Kevin Durant crowns ex-teammate Klay Thompson as ‘Splash Brother’ bids adieu to Warriors family

Klay Thompson left the Golden State Warriors after 13 seasons.

After Klay Thompson departed from the Golden State Warriors, there has been a major rush of emotion directed towards him and his former teammates as seen on their social media handles. Having played for the same franchise for almost 13 years right from day one, Thompson has been more than just a superstar for the team.

Earning the social media title of the Splash Brothers alongside Stephen Curry and being the big 3 along with Kevin Durant, the former teammates share a deep bond. Even though Durant’s stay at the Warriors was for a short period he has a deep sense of appreciation for what Thompson and the Warriors have together achieved. In a recent post of Thompson where he expressed his emotions and bid farewell to the Bay Arena, Durant crowned him as the “Bay Area God” and wrote – “One chapter closes, another opens. Keep doing You Champ.”

Although these athletes will eventually fight against each other for the championship trophy, the feeling of brotherhood that they share is commendable. Having played for the Warriors for 3 years and winning 2 back-to-back championships with them, it is quite obvious that these stars are way more than just teammates.

Why did Kevin Durant Leave the Warriors?

There have been innumerable speculations of Kevin Durant leaving the Warriors for many different reasons, one of the main speculations being the argument between Durant and Draymond Green during a match against the Clippers.

The media had exaggerated the issue and ultimately when Durant left the Warriors, the argument was portrayed as a big rift between the two stars and that was reportedly why KD left the team. But in real when asked about it in an interview he had revealed that it was the media criticism and the warriors not addressing the issue due to which he felt it was not right for him to stay in the Bay Area anymore.

Following his introspection of pros and cons he chose to leave the Warriors and join the Brooklyn Nets to form the Big 3 with Kyrie Irving and James Harden. Following this deal with the Nets, they lost in the Conference Semi-Finals against the Bucks. Later Durant joined the Phoenix Suns and has been playing alongside Devin Booker ever since.
