Chris Evans shows off his bulked-out frame as he gets to work with Scarlett Johansson on set of Captain America

He’s been hard at work shooting upcoming action movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier on location in Washington DC.

And it would seem that in spite of his relentless schedule, Chris Evans has been finding time to put in some long hours at the gym.

Shooting new scenes alongside co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Anthony Mackie, the 31-year-old actor was showing off a decidedly bulkier physique as he got to work on set.

Buff body! Chris Evans showed off his bulky physique while on the set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier on the National Mall in Washington DC on Tuesday

Wearing a tight-fitting grey T-shirt, the star was sporting a set of bulging biceps, which will no doubt leave men the world over feel more than a little envious.

Showing off his buff body in all its glory, the Captain America hunk seemed to be in great spirits as he chatted away to his co-stars in between takes.

But it would seem maintaining such an incredible physique is by no means an easy task, with eyewitnesses on set saying Chris was even spotted doing press-ups as he took time out from filming.

Anthony Mackie – who plays Falcon in Captain America – seemed to be in particularly good spirits throughout the shoot, smiling and joking with his co-stars as they took some time out from their gruelling schedule.

Shooting the movie, a follow-up to the 2011 blockbuster Captain America: The First Avenger, has already caused havoc on the streets of Washington, with numerous streets closed as filming gets underway.

The new movie will see Steve Rogers – portrayed by Evans – struggle to embrace his role in the modern world as he teams up with Natasha Romanoff (Johansson) to take on a powerful enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Newcomer Mackie told inquisitr.com: ‘This movie has kind of become Avengers 1.5. If you look at the cast they’ve put together, if you look at the number of characters that are in this movie.

‘It’s a huge number of superheroes and characters. The basic idea is that you have Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon that get together to take down the Winter Solider.’

One big happy family: Scarlett cuddled up to a member of the production team in between takes for the action-packed movie

‘I’m playing the Falcon. He’s this guy in Harlem who moved to California and became a drug dealer. His place crashed, and he was genetically altered, and he can fly, has telepathic powers.

‘He’s the first African-American superhero. It makes me feel all the work I’ve done has been paying off. I have a son, nephews, and nieces, and I love the idea that they can dress up as the Falcon on Halloween.

‘They now have someone they can idolise. That’s a huge honor for me.’
