Drake came to comfort star Kevin Durant after he was injured during Game Five of the NBA Finals in Toronto, Canada.

The 32-year-old Canadian rapper despite being a global ambassador for the Toronto Raptors counts Durant, 30, among his favorite players and friends.

Drake appeared to give Durant some encouraging words and patted him on the back as the 6ft 9in star walked back to the locker room during the second quarter.

Durant, the two-time NBA Finals MVP, was attempting to dribble past Serge Ibaka early in the second quarter when he suddenly came to a stop, lost the ball and limped sideways before grabbing at his lower right calf as he fell to the court.

Fans at first cheered but then, spurred in part by some Raptors players, chanted ‘KD! KD!’ as he was helped to the locker room area joined by teammates Stephen Curry, Andre Iguodala and general manager Bob Myers.

Durant limped off after he had missed the previous nine games with a strained right calf.

Drake during Game One of the NBA Finals on May 30 in Toronto wore a black armband covering tattoos of Curry and Durant on his left arm.

The rapper during a September 2016 concert at Oracle Arena where the Warriors play also wore a Durant jersey and brought the star player onstage.

Drake also previously name dropped Durant in his song Weston Road Flows and also has rapped about Curry and Warriors player Draymond Green.

Durant left the arena on crutches with what a tearful Myers said was an Achilles tendon injury and the Warriors said he would get an MRI on Tuesday.

Displaying sportsmanship: Kyle Lowry of the Raptors discouraged fans from cheering the star player’s injury and they started chanting ‘KD!, KD!’

Fired up: Drake was fired up in the fourth quarter during the tight game between the teams

Canadian stars: Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard greeted Drake before the game

The Raptors went into Game Five with a 3-1 series advantage, but even with Durant’s injury were unable to win the best-of-seven series on their home court Scotiabank Arena.

The Warriors won 106-105 and will host Game Six on Thursday at the last game in Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. If the Warriors win, a decisive Game Seven will be played Sunday in Toronto.

Golden State is the only team to lose a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals, when Cleveland came back to win in 2016.

Toronto native Drake in September 2013 was announced as the ‘global ambassador’ for the Raptors.

He joined the home crowd as the arena sang the Canadian National Anthem together before the game.
