Cristiano Ronaldo breaks down in tears as 39-year-old became the first player EVER to score 900 goals in football history after cool finish for Portugal against Croatia

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 900th goal of his career in Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Croatia.

The Real Madrid and Manchester United icon, 39, is the first player in history to accomplish this achievement.

And he was passionate after scoring a six-yard tap-in from a Nuno Mendes cross, dropping to his knees and crying on the pitch in Lisbon.

It comes after he said last week that he hopes to achieve 1000 goals before retiring.

Speaking on his new YouTube channel, he said, “I’ll do 900 soon and then beat 1,000.”

“I aim to achieve 1,000 goals. If I don’t have any injuries, this is the most significant to me. That is what I desire.

“It’s the best marker I can get in football.” There will be one difference: all of my goals are video-based, so I can verify it.”

Some consider Pele to be the greatest goal scorer of all time, with FIFA awarding the late Brazilian superstar with 1,281 goals.

However, the Brazilian Guinness world record holder amassed his total in over 550 exhibition and amateur matches.

His total in official career matches is 762, sparking a long-running argument about which records are most reliable.

Even for the ex-Man Utd, Real, and Juve hero, it was a lot to take in. A football player with the number 19 on his jersey, Ronaldo couldn’t hold back his emotions after his newest milestone.

After signing with Al-Nassr, he travelled to Saudi Arabia, where he scored 68 in 74 games.

At the international level, he presently has 131 goals in 212 games for Portugal.

Despite his incredible goalscoring record for his country and Euro 2016 victory, Ronaldo was widely critiqued for his efforts at this summer’s Euros.

Ronaldo did not score in Portugal’s five quarter-final matches, as the team was eliminated by France.

Ronaldo’s goal in Portugal’s Nations League match against Croatia on Thursday night was their second of the evening, following Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot’s opener.

Dalot then scored from the wrong end, but Portugal held on for a 2-1 triumph.
