Kevin Durant becomes first four-time gold medalist in men’s Olympic basketball

Kevin Durant surpasses Carmelo Anthony and becomes the winningest Olympic male basketball player with a record-breaking fourth Olympic gold in the Paris 2024 Games.

Kevin Durant made history by becoming the first player to win four gold medals in men’s Olympic basketball after Team USA defeated France in the Paris 2024 Olympics final.

The 35-year-old superstar has now won gold in four consecutive Olympics: London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024.

Durant is not only the all-time leading scorer in U.S. Olympic history but also a FIBA World Champion (2010), a two-time NBA champion (2017, 2018), an NBA MVP (2014), and a 14-time NBA All-Star (2010–2019, 2021–2024).

By winning his fourth gold in Paris, Durant surpassed his former teammate, NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, who also earned four Olympic medals but with one bronze. Melo’s Olympic journey began with a bronze in 2004, followed by golds in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

Durant, along with Anthony and LeBron James — who also has four Olympic medals — now holds more gold medals than any other men’s basketball player in history and more than any country besides the United States itself.

However, Durant isn’t the most decorated Olympian in basketball. Two American women, Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi, each have five gold medals. While Bird retired after the Tokyo Olympics, Taurasi is still active and will compete for a record sixth gold in the final against France on Sunday.

Still, KD could add to his legacy in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, where, at 39 years old, he might go for a fifth gold medal.
