Lakers legend James Worthy believes Kevin Durant belongs in ‘GOAT’ debates

Los Angeles Lakers legend James Worthy recently picked Kevin Durant as his choice amid the raging GOAT discussion by fans and analysts.

There’s been a long-standing debate over which basketball player should be crowned as the greatest of all time. Whenever the GOAT debate happens, there are usually a handful of familiar names being mentioned. Notable players such as Michael Jordan and LeBron James are mostly considered.

However, Lakers legend James Worthy has now made a case for Kevin Durant to be included. In a recent interview with ClutchPoints, the former NBA veteran picked Durant as a player he would vote as GOAT.

I’ve loved him since Texas. If I’m choosing somebody, he might be… You know, Steph shoots the three, but Durant is cold-blooded at his height… He doesn’t get talked enough about. If you’re talking like top seven guys who can be the greatest of all time, he’s in there in my opinion. He’s just a phenomenal player.

James Worthy said

According to James Worthy, the Phoenix Suns player doesn’t get much recognition like others in the league. He further acknowledged that LeBron James, Jordan and even Stephen Curry are more talked about. Despite this, he had huge praise for Kevin Durant, whom he also rated highly in the GOAT discussion.

Worthy does have a point there. Indeed, when one places the 35-year-old alongside the league’s best players, he is also up there too. Durant’s list of accolades is impressive, and he’s not done yet. KD is a 14-time NBA All-Star, a two-time NBA Champion, and a four-time Olympic gold medalist amongst others.

It is worth noting that Worthy played 12 seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers during his career. He won 3 championships and was a 7-time NBA All-Star.

Anthony Edwards called Kevin Durant his ‘GOAT’

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards isn’t worried about the endless GOAT debates. For him, Kevin Durant is already the undisputed greatest of all time. This is a topic that Edwards himself has publicly made his stand known to basketball fans.

My GOAT… this is going to sound crazy, but Kevin Durant. I’ve always just been a fan, watching him play as a kid. He’s the first seven-footer I’ve seen putting the ball on the floor… I’ve always been a big fan.

Speaking once to Malika Andrews of ESPN, Anthony Edwards said

Edwards was just aged six when Durant made his NBA debut with the Seattle SuperSonics. However, the former has stuck with his childhood fandom until now.

As for Durant, he will be turning 36 later this month but has shown no signs of slowing down. He and the Phoenix Suns will be aiming for a championship run next season, which would be his third if they achieve it.
