Oscar-tipped Leonardo DiCaprio cuts a dapper figure as he attends The Revenant premiere in Paris

He is on course for Academy Award glory.

So, keen to maintain the momentum, Leonardo Dicaprio was out in force as he promoted his new movie, The Revenant, in Paris, this week.

The acclaimed actor was spotted at the French capital’s red carpet screening on Monday, where he was joined by Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

Handsome: Leonardo Dicaprio was out in force as he attended The Revenant premiere in Paris on Monday

The veteran star, who scooped the Best Actor award at last Sunday night’s Golden Globes, was typically dapper in a grey and white suit ensemble.

Leo, 41, capped off the look with a diagonally-striped tie and a pair of high-shine leather shoes.

Altogether, it meant the critically-acclaimed star looked every inch the Hollywood A-lister.

Destined for major success throughout Europe, The Revenant has scored 12 nominations for this year’s Oscars, with nods in the Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director categories.

Hotly-tipped: The veteran star, who scooped the Best Actor award at last Sunday night’s Golden Globes, was typically dapper in a two-piece grey suit

Posing up a storm with Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, the two men looked smart and stylish as they faced French crowds.

On Thursday morning, Leo spoke to This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about award season, the pair quizzed him on whether this would be the year he would finally win an Oscar.

He said: ‘I do know that it’s completely beyond my control at this point. It’s interesting, because that’s not why you do the work, you know?’

Still got it: The 41-year-old’s Hollywood charm showed no signs of fading as he looked handsome in the smart ensemble which was paired with a white shirt and a skinny tie

Could this be his year? Destined for major success throughout Europe, The Revenant has scored 12 nominations for this year’s Oscars, with nods in the Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director categories

‘You do the work because you love making movies and you want to look back and have a filmography that you’re proud of.

‘When you’re on set you have to give everything that you possibly can while you’re there but of course being recognised by your peers and all that other stuff that happens is kind of the cherry on the cake so to speak.

He gave a similar interview with Andrew Marr, telling him that Academy Award success was out of his hands.

He explained: ‘The truth of the matter is that I’ve been in situations before where I’ve thought films or performances, either mine or others, should be either nominated more adored by the public, or critics should revere it more. But it’s beyond your control.’

Turning up: The Titanic star arrived at the venue with a tailored black coat worn over his suit

Taking it all in his stride: The popular actor certainly cut a dash when he arrived at the French screening

Leading the way to Oscar glory? If Leo wins, it will mark his first-ever Academy Award triumph

Which filter? One fan was pictured showing the talented actor their phone screen as he spent time chatting to the crowd

In popular demand: Leo took time to scribble his autograph down for some lucky fans before heading inside the venue

Many believe that this will finally be Leo’s year to taste Oscar gold including his former Titanic co-star Kate Winslet.

‘I do think it probably will be, I think you can sort of feel it. And I think that everyone wants it for him and it would be amazing,’ 40-year-old Winslet told Reuters at the Critics’ Circle Film Awards in London on Sunday night.

‘But it’s also slightly difficult for me too because Michael Fassbender has been nominated … and I think his performance is so extraordinary. But … I think you can sort of feel the temperature, it’s probably going to be Leo’s year.’

As if playing Hugh Glass in his latest film wasn’t enough, Leo seems interested in playing quite a different real-life character in Russian President Vladamir Putin.

He told German publication Welt am Sonntag: ‘[Vladamir] Putin would be very, very, very interesting, I would love to play him.

‘[Former Chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Soviet Union Vladimir] Lenin, too, would be an interesting film role. I would [like] to play Rasputin too. I believe that there should be more movies about Russian history. Russia unites so many stories almost of Shakespearean character. For an actor, it’s extremely exciting.’

Three’s a cool crowd: Prior to the Parisian screening Leo also joined British actor Will Poultner and Alejandro G. Inarritu for a press conference

In an interview with the Radio Times, DiCaprio’s co-star Domnhall Gleeson, 32, said he felt the actor’s performance in The Revenant was his ‘career best work’.

The Harry Potter actor said: ‘The effect of what he’s done I feel most palpably in the performance, not in how other people respond to it, just in how I responded to it. I think he’s already a phenomenal actor.

‘He got to a standard I wasn’t sure anybody was capable of, really, with what he did.’

Prior to the Parisian screening Leo also joined British actor Will Poulter and Alejandro G. Inarritu for a press conference.

And Poulter, 22, was in high spirits for the premiere. The actor smiled and gave the cameras a thumbs up as he made his way along the red carpet.

Sporting a neat crew cut, Poulter looked dapper in a navy suit with a burgundy shirt and red tie.

He’s enjoying it all! Leo was certainly on good form as he responded to questions from the audience

Press conference: British actor Will Poulter, Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, and US actor Leonardo DiCaprio address journalists

Looking good: Leo sported designer stubble for the occasion, which saw him score another sartorial success
