Savannah admits she and LeBron may not be together today if he didn’t get drafted by Cavs.

For a variety of reasons, LeBron James and his wife Savannah are seen by many as one of the most inspirational celebrity couples out there, but if it weren’t for the Cleveland Cavaliers, there are no guarantees that the relationship would have lasted.

Savannah James explained how Cleveland’s decision to select LeBron James with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft might have kept the couple together.

“Obviously, LeBron got drafted to Cleveland when we was younger, and I’m from Akron — I’m from 30 minutes down the road — but I don’t know,” she said. “If I had to ask him, if he was sittin’ here…I think that he would say the same in like, ‘I don’t know what would have happened.’ So, thanks Cleveland Cavaliers.”

She clarified that she meant she isn’t sure if she and James would be together now if not for the Cavs drafting him.

“We’ve talked about this a lot,” she said.

The Cavs won the 2003 NBA Draft Lottery, earning the right to select LeBron James the following month. It’s fascinating to consider that a random drawing of ping pong balls could be the reason why LeBron and Savannah James are still together.

They got married in 2013 and have three kids together, one of whom is now teammates with LeBron James on the Los Angeles Lakers.

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer certainly doesn’t have too many years left in the NBA, as he will soon turn 40 and is about to enter his 22nd season in the league. He has done more than enough to make his family proud of his on-the-floor accomplishments, winning four NBA titles to go along with countless other accolades.

Once LeBron James retires, it’s a safe bet that he will get involved in some new ventures, with NBA ownership likely being one of them, but he will also have lots of time to spend with his family, something Savannah James and the kids must be excited about.

For now, the future Hall of Famer is looking ahead to the 2024-25 NBA season, which will begin for his Lakers on Oct. 22 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. L.A. is looking to send a message this season after the team took a disappointing exit in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
