Tom Cruise is supported by Mission: Impossible co-stars Henry Cavill and Angela Bassett as he receives Pioneer of the Year Award at CinemaCon

Four decades of Hollywood success were recognised as friends and colleagues paid tribute to screen icon Tom Cruise in Las Vegas on Wednesday evening.

The celebrated actor, 55, was honoured at the 2018 Will Rogers Pioneer of the Year Dinner at Caesar’s Palace during CinemaCon, the annual convention for the National Association of Theatre Owners.

And he rightly took centre stage as guests including Mission: Impossible – Fallout co-stars Angela Bassett and Henry Cavill joined him onstage, from where they treated those in attendance to a sneak peek at the forthcoming film.

Cruise will return for a sixth outing as special agent Ethan Hunt when the new film goes on general release in July, and the actor was on hand to provide commentary while screening a breath-taking skydiving scene.

‘It took a year to figure this sequence out,’ Cruise, who famously performs all of his own stunts, told the audience on Wednesday evening.

British star Cavill, 34, joins Cruise as CIA agent August Walker in the latest Mission: Impossible installment, and he admitted the scene, in which he also features, was akin to something from one of the actor’s most iconic films.
